The Tuberculosis Local Organizations Network Region 3: TB LON 3 Project (2020-2025)

The Tuberculosis Local Organizations Network Region 3 (TB LON 3) grant is a USAID funded five (5) year project implemented by the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria (IHVN); the Principal Recipient, in four (4) Nigerian States; Lagos, Oyo, Ogun and Osun. It is focused on tuberculosis (TB) case detection, care and treatment. It is aimed at executing TB focused surge activities across implementation states.

The Centre for Integrated Health Programs (CIHP), as the lead Sub-Recipient (SR) to the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria (IHVN), implements the TB LON 3 project in Osun State.

CIHP is responsible for the coordination of grant activities in the state primarily focusing on facility-based interventions across 117 public and private health facilities to;

  • identify TB cases; through active TB screening, evaluation and diagnosis,
  • strengthen and expand TB treatment access to new and relapsed TB cases and patients with multi-drug resistant TB [MDR-TB],
  • provide TB prevention services including contact tracing of index TB patients to provide TB services.
  • expand and strengthen the Public-Private Mix (PPM) for TB diagnosis and treatment,
  • strengthen case holding and linkage to other support services

CIHP, in collaboration with the Society for Family Health (SFH) and other stakeholders; State Ministry of Health, the State Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme (NTBLCP), Public-Private Mix (PPM) etc. implements through the strategic approach of;

  • Effective partner coordination and technical assistance for program implementation
  • Optimized facility clinical system to improve TB case finding and linkage to treatment

Propagation of TB prevention and treatment through patient  empowerment

The goal of the project is to ensure strengthened, resilient, and sustainable systems for TB control in Osun State by 2025.

The proposed outcomes of the TB LON 3 project include:

  • Improved access to high-quality, person-centered TB treatment, Drug Resistant TB (DR-TB), and TB/HIV service for a cumulative number of at least two hundred and twelve thousand, two hundred and eighteen thousand (212,218) persons in the four (4) TB LON 3 states
  • Strengthened systems and structures for TB detection, treatment and notification
  • Strengthened TB service delivery platforms
  • Reduced TB disease transmission and progression
  • Accelerated TB research and innovations with improved impact on program implementation
