31 Oct CDC Delegation Visits Lagos State to Advance HIV Program Sustainability and Local Ownership
A high-level delegation from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),led by the Country Director, Dr. Meghna Desai, recently paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Ministry of Health (LSMoH). The delegation was accompanied by CIHP leadership.
The team was received by Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, who represented the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi. Also in attendance were key stakeholders from the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), Lagos
State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), and the Health Service Commission (HSC).
Central to the discussions during the visit was the strategic development of a roadmap to ensure long-term sustainability of the HIV program in Lagos State, as well as integrating HIV services into the state’s health financing and human resource systems to promote long-term program
stability.
The visit also coincided with the official close-out of the National Clinical Mentorship Program, which has strengthened clinical capacity across the state. Dr. Desai described the program’s conclusion as a milestone toward achieving full local ownership of the HIV response.
Overall, the engagements emphasized CDC’s commitment to building state capacity for sustainable HIV programming and exploring new avenues of collaboration to advance Nigeria’s health security agenda.
