Preventing Mother-To-Child Transmission of HIV: CIHP Empowers Healthcare Workers on PreP

Prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTC) of HIV is essential for ensuring healthy futures for both mothers and their babies. This strategy not only reduces the risk of HIV transmission during pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding but also contributes to breaking the cycle of HIV transmission in communities.

Recognizing the critical need for informed healthcare provision, CIHP recently conducted a comprehensive orientation for healthcare workers in Lagos, Kaduna and Kogi states. This orientation focused on the effective use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for pregnant and breastfeeding women, equipping frontline providers with the knowledge and tools necessary to support safer pregnancies and healthier outcomes.

The integration of PrEP into maternal care reduces the risk of HIV transmission while ultimately advancing the goal of an HIV-free generation.
