CIHP G-ANC PROJECT IN LAGOS STATE

CIHP is implementing Group Antenatal care (G-ANC) project in Lagos state to strengthen early uptake of antenatal care, post-natal care, family planning and improve spousal involvement in antenatal care service.

The project, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation through Technical Advice (TA) Connect, aims to improve maternal and child health outcomes.

G-ANC is an evidence informed innovative, client-led approach to the traditional individual antenatal care. It is a facility-based model of antenatal care aimed at providing all routine antenatal care for pregnant women with similar gestational age and health needs. The model is associated with improved ANC attendance, client satisfaction, and positive health outcomes for pregnant women and newborns

CIHP had earlier implemented G-ANC in Kaduna state with notable results. CIHP intends to build on her experience and learnings from the institutionalization of G-ANC in Kaduna State to support the Lagos state Ministry of Health, State Primary Health Care Board and community structures such as TBA and CHEWS in designing and implementing a circle-of-care approach.

CIHP will Technically work with Lagos State for the implementation of an expanded scope of the Group ANC model and high-impact interventions in 260 selected public health facilities; 240 PHCs and 20 secondary health facilities, across the 20 LGAs.
