The Innovate, Recalibrate, Integrate and Surge to build resilient systems for sustained HIV epidemic control (‘IRIS’) project, is a PEPFAR funded five year (2022-2027) cooperative agreement/grant between CIHP and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) aimed at utilizing existing and new data-driven strategies to reach those at greatest risk of HIV acquisition, reducing new HIV infections and accelerating progress towards epidemic control in Nigeria.

CIHP will leverage successes and lessons learned from its previous PEPFAR/CDC project, Partnering Effectively to end AIDS through Results and Learning (PEARL) project (2017-2022) to accelerate targeted scale up of lifesaving antiretroviral treatment (ART) across four (4) Nigerian States; Lagos, Gombe, Kaduna and Kogi, sustaining the gains towards HIV epidemic control.

It will achieve this in the implementation States through;

  • Strengthening of HIV prevention programs including Key Population (KP) services and Prevention of Mother-To-Child-Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) at facilities and in the community

  • Sustaining antiretroviral treatment (ART) scale-up gains made in the last two (2) years by ensuring that clients are retained in care and achieve viral suppression.

  • Supporting cross-cutting, systems-level interventions for improved laboratory services and quality, timely data for program planning and decision-making and

  • Collaborating with the Government of Nigeria and Civil Society Organizations (CSO) to foster sustained impact and program ownership.

The IRIS project targets underserved or left behind sub-populations; such as children, adolescents girls and boys, and pregnant women. It also targets ‘Key Population’ (KP) and the general population inclusive of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) as well as Tuberculosis(TB)/HIV co-infected patients as priority groups that must be reached to achieve its project outcomes.
