Service Delivery Innovations Strategic Initiative (SDI-SI): Evaluation Project (2022-2023)

The Service Delivery Innovations Strategic Initiative (SDI-SI) is a Global Fund investment implemented in five (5) countries in West and Central Africa (Chad, Niger, Democratic Republic of the Congo [DRC], Mali and Nigeria). It is aimed at supporting better service delivery for Malaria, HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis (TB) through more strategic and innovative Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health (RSSH) approaches which should lead to improved health outcomes.

In Nigeria, it is being implemented by technical assistance providers; Jhpiego, KIT Royal Tropical Institute and the World Health Organization (WHO), in a total of thirty (30) health facilities in three (3) Local Government Areas (LGA); Birniwa, Gwaram and Sule Tankarkar, in Jigawa State.

For its synergistic impact, the initiative comprises three (3) sub-components; Quality Improvement, Human Resource for Health (HRH) planning and Leadership & Management Strengthening, implemented at State and LGA levels.

In collaboration with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and Itad, United Kingdom,  and the Jigawa Ministry of Health with funding from the Global Fund through Itad, UK, the Centre for Integrated Health Programs (CIHP) evaluates the Human Resources for Health (HRH) and Quality Improvement (QI) components of the Service Delivery Innovations Strategic Initiative (SDI-SI), project in Jigawa State, Nigeria.

The aim of the SDI-SI evaluation project is to assess the overall effect of the Human Resources for Health (HRH) and Quality Improvement (QI) interventions on quality of care, health facility staffing, and the policy environment with a focus on services related to Malaria, HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis treatment outcomes to inform scale up of the initiative to other LGA in Jigawa State, Nigerian States and other countries.
